BNY Mellon Internship
(listing placed April 14, 2010)
We have recently posted a new Undergraduate Internship opportunity at BNY Mellon in the East Syracuse location. Please share this information with your colleagues and students. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have.
Req# 1001429
The East Syracuse, New York location of BNYMellon is seeking an undergraduate intern for the Client Services - Tax Exempt Group of Asset Servicing. The incumbent will perform assigned duties under the direction of an experienced staff member to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards required for performance of the departmental duties. He/She receives training and performs tasks in one of several departments to become familiar with the line of business and company policies and practices. He/She may be trained in functions and operations of related departments to facilitate subsequent transferability between departments and to provide greater experience opportunities.
Specifically, the intern will be part of a team created to manage the migration of clients from the L-BNY servicing platform, to the L-Mellon servicing platform. They are charged with the gathering and sharing of client information to help ensure the client receives a seamless transition. This process is occurring in "waves" of 50-75 clients. Each wave requires preparation time, as well as research and classification of more than 500 funds.
Each team member uses a project plan, and is in constant communication with other conversion team members. Some of the areas they interact with daily include the Mutual Funds, Client Accounting and Reporting, Conversions Team, and Client Implementation. It is a critical part of the entire process to stay in constant communication with each of these groups. There is a significant wind-down operation as accounts are coded closed after transition.
There are tight deadlines, internal technology barriers, and the constant changes in each relationship. Through the conversion process, each team member may be asked to take on additional tasks throughout the project. Feedback and ideas from team members are critical to the development of the migration process. The plan will continue to be modified over the course of the project to be made more efficient and useful for all parties. Team members will continually follow up with both L-Mel and L-BNY client service teams to gauge client feedback. The intern will perform administrative assignments of a confidential nature using a variety of computer software and spreadsheets (msword, excel, access, powerpoint, and bank systems). The work requires continual attention to detail in composing detailed typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
The qualified individual must be enrolled in a 4-year degree program and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. He/She will possess strong leadership, analytical, and problem solving skills. Strong communication and organizational skills is a must. He/She should be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently and be computer proficient. It is preferred that the incumbents have previous internship (summer or Co-operative Education) experience.
