Position Overview:
The Bridge Strategy Project will recruit students for the Electromachanical Technology (ELM) program at Onondaga Community College in preparation for careers at companies like Micron. The Access Advisor will help students explore their career interests and apply to OCC, if appropriate. Once enrolled, this advisor will provide support for students during their first semester at OCC.
Position Responsibilities:

Support and assist Bridge participants with the college-facing components of a comprehensive development program designed to guide clients in making and implementing career plans leading to enrollment in OCC’s ELM Program.
- Guide clients through the process of assessment, advisement, training and development, and career mapping based on specific needs of Bridge Students.
- Advise and coach underserved populations including but not limited to: veterans, returning citizens, GED/non-high school graduates, and persons with disabilities. Provide one-to-one assistance in resolving financial, academic and personal obstacles to starting college or vocational school
- Collaborate with Bridge Team Members (multiple organizations) and community partners including but not limited to: Director of Workforce Innovation (CenterState CEO), Onboarding provided by multiple organizations, Navigators from other organizations, staff and tutors from learning communities, Bridge Skill Development Course Instructor, and OCC Enrollment and Navigator Teams.
- Create a supportive and caring environment for advising meetings, and effectively engage students via in-person, telephone, email, text, social media or video conference settings.
- Assist with applications, personal statements, recommendations needed for higher education and vocational agencies
- Participate in New Student Orientation program and assist students with making a smooth transition to campus
- Help to clarify program requirements, campus policies, and procedures.
- Assist students in the identification of needed support services for their educational pathway.
- Provide outreach when necessary to promote the Bridge Strategy and On Point for College.
- Support the development of the Supportive Service and Education resource guide.
- Attend training relating to Bridge Program Offerings and partner offerings (OCC Enrollment, GED Programs etc.)
- Maintain accurate data/notes/information in database
- Engage in peer-to-peer learning, documenting best practices and working collaboratively to ensure the success of a pilot program, and to meet the varied needs of Bridge Strategy participants.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required in rehabilitation counseling, human services, education, or related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed/requested.
- Knowledge of principles and practices associated with career service, human resources, workforce development, and coaching. General understanding of career college lifecycle preferred.
- The ability to establish rapport and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
- The ability to take initiative and be a self-starter
- Familiar with the Advanced Manufacturing industry with basic understanding of other fields: health, hospitality and culinary, IT and technology, and trades.
- Exceptional customer service experience.
- Experience working with a diverse clientele and have a level of cultural competency.
- Superior oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, able to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet software, and data tracking system

Salary:
- $44,000 per year / 40-hour work week / 9:00am – 5:00pm / Monday thru Friday
Benefits:
Most positions receive a laptop or desktop, mobile phone, scanner, and portable printer to use so staff can work from other locations (school districts, community centers, etc.).
Holidays include Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Friday after. We also offer paid leave from 12/24 thru 1/1 for full-time employees.
On Point also:
- Covers 90% of the Health Insurance cost (individual or family plans)
- Pays the premiums for a $10,000 Life Insurance Policy while employed
- Offers an employer contribution to a 403B retirement plan (like 401K for non-profits) after the 1st year of service
- Pays the membership fees for COSTCO or BJ’s
- Covers AAA membership while employed
- Reimburses mileage for work-related travel
- Offers supplemental AFLAC healthcare plans and Dental plans (these are optional employee-paid programs)
