Position Overview:

On Point offers a summer internship experience for its students in Onondaga County. Internships run for 6 weeks, from early July through mid-August. The Summer Internship Career Advocate is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the summer internship program at On Point. This role involves collaborating with both internal departments and external employers to create a positive and rewarding experience for interns while ensuring that both On Point and the employers benefit from the interns’ contributions. The Summer Internship Career Advocate plays a pivotal role in attracting talented interns, facilitating their onboarding and training, providing ongoing support throughout their internship period, and tracking data for program evaluation and payroll.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Program Implementation: Conduct day-to-day activities of the internship program’s phases: recruitment of applicants; review of applications; interviewing students; recruiting employers; matching students to employers; intern orientation and training; site visits; managing bi-weekly payroll; maintaining records in spreadsheets and database; scheduling program enrichment activities; troubleshooting issues between interns and employers; and program evaluation activities.

  • Recruitment: Collaborate with Career Services Coordinator and relevant departments to attract and select suitable intern candidates.
  • Onboarding and Orientation: Coordinate the onboarding process for new interns, including orientation sessions, introduction to company policies and culture, and allocation of mentors/supervisors.
  • Training and Development: Work with department managers to design and deliver appropriate training programs for interns, ensuring students gain relevant skills and knowledge during their internships.
  • Intern Support: Serve as the main point of contact for interns throughout their internship, providing guidance, support, and addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Performance Evaluation: Monitor intern progress and conduct site visit evaluations to assess their performance and development, providing feedback to both interns and their supervisors.
  • Networking and Events: Organize networking events, workshops, and activities to foster a positive and inclusive internship experience.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with all legal and organizational requirements related to internships, including relevant contracts, agreements, and documentation.
  • Data entry and reporting: Maintain accurate records in spreadsheets and database. Generate reports on the internship program's effectiveness, including metrics on intern satisfaction, performance, and overall program impact.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Proven experience in managing internship programs or related HR/recruitment functions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with interns, managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and Google documents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various teams and adapt to the changing organization needs.
  • Passion for supporting and developing young talent and creating a positive, inclusive work environment.

Salary:

  • $20 per hour / 40-hour work week / 9:00am – 5:00pm, including paid 1 hr lunch break / Monday thru Friday through August 31, 2025

Most positions receive a laptop or desktop, mobile phone, scanner, and portable printer to use so staff can work from other locations (school districts, community centers, etc.).

Holidays include Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Friday after.  We also offer paid leave from 12/24 thru 1/1 for full-time employees.

On Point also:

  • Covers 90% of the Health Insurance cost (individual or family plans)
  • Pays the premiums for a $10,000 Life Insurance Policy while employed
  • Offers an employer contribution to a 403B retirement plan (like 401K for non-profits) after the 1st year of service
  • Pays the membership fees for COSTCO or BJ’s
  • Covers AAA membership while employed
  • Reimburses mileage for work-related travel
  • Offers supplemental AFLAC healthcare plans and Dental plans (these are optional employee-paid programs)
